Mr. X recently sent in some details from an EMail conversation with Rudolf Cornelissen about what he’s up to these days. Right now he’s focusing on support for systems with multiple video cards:
Currently I am working hard on improving support for multiple cards in one system, and one test I did (is running even now :), is having Q2 running on a secondary card, while the Desktop is on the primary card (although filled with empty q2 generated rectangles because setting modes is incorporated there.
Rudolf also outlined some of the other things he’s currently working on, read more for the details!
I have to fix a few more things, then I’ll release:
-new 2d drivers for matrox, nvidia, neomagic
-3d driver recompile for nvidia (still looking to see if I can find more HW speed optimisations)
-VGA device video consumer node which will display video on a secondary supported card
-MK mediaplayer: a mediaplayer (simple) that uses a node to playback video: even Be’s mediaplayer doesn’t do that)Currently I have tested on three systems: all working with nodes. One of them has 5 gfx cards in it, I can select one of the four not used cards and video will go there. :-)
This secondary 3D and video thing means that I can also do this: (right now)
– primary card displays desktop (with recompiled 3D apps that is, which I don’t have right now though)
– secondary card displays video
– tertiary card plays Q2.
